Toy Story 5 Teaser Sets The Beloved Duo Versus a Tablet Computer
It has been 30 years since the first Toy Story film was released, establishing the animation giant as a major animation studio and bringing viewers to iconic characters like the cowboy doll (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now famous worldwide.
In 2026, the next chapter is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, providing a glimpse into the plot but leaving viewers curious how it will resolve the conclusion of Toy Story 4.
The Latest Addition: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Frightens the Toys
In the teaser shows the young girl — who inherited the toy collection when he left for college — getting a latest plaything, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. Bonnie acquires her first tablet computer, and she is excited about it.
Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the toys appear to consider it as a threat intending to supplant them, which it probably is.
The Cowboy's Comeback: Mysteries from Toy Story 4
One thing the teaser doesn't touch on is why the sheriff is back with his companions in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 depicted him set off on a new adventure with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), traveling with a carnival and helping prize toys find good homes.
Certainly, Pixar will explain the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the film. Witnessing him appear in the familiar setting without warning is somewhat puzzling, though. It also makes us wonder whether Bo Peep will have returned with him. And what about the stuntman toy (the star)?
Continuity from the Previous Film
At the very least, some elements are continuing from the prior film. The final act Woody did before setting off for his fresh path was pass his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (the voice actor), leaving her in charge of the toy domain. In the teaser displays the badge pinned to her outfit.
Hopefully she is remains the driving force among the toys.
Toy Story 5 debuts on June 19, 2026.
