Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with rich lore, a wide array of personalities, and a gripping narrative showcasing celestial beings, demons, and malevolent powers increasing in strength within the urban setting.
Warning: Spoilers for the third episode of this adventure follow below.
The Soldiers Table Introduced
The latest chapter ended with a major cliffhanger and introduced the initial group of heroes who will separate from the central cast to begin their independent quest, distinct from the remaining groups.
The combat-focused team includes the determined fighter (brought to life by Travis Willingham), Thimble (Laura Bailey), the strong-willed figure (Whitney), the cleric (Sam), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie Daymond).
The Reason for Division
Given 13 cast members, it was clear from the outset that maintaining everyone at the same party would be unfeasible.
This explains, the opening chapters of Campaign 4 serve as an Overture, intertwining the individual narratives before dividing into three distinct groups: Fighters, Schemers, and Explorers.
The Nature of the Combat Party
As described by the DM, the warrior group is for adventurers who enjoy a typically action-packed battle-oriented narrative style where diplomatic options are few and far between.
At first glance, characters like the reluctant priest Wicander might seem out of place, but the actions of episode 3 show why these specific adventurers are best suited for the combat party.
Reasons to Leave
To begin with, the team understands precisely where to head next after a brutal initial meeting with the antagonists.
An old friend of Thjazi—whose demise started the story’s plot—used the enemy for his personal gain, breaking into Thjazi’s hideout, striking the rogue, and stealing all the enchanted items to dispose of.
The antagonist then settled his debts and escaped to a Halovar stronghouse in the northern region, beyond the city, with Cyd Pridesire close behind.
Individual Reasons
Secondly, each adventurer has a personal reason to leave the city the urban setting:
- The agile hero, as the close ally and closest confidant, wants vengeance.
- The adventurer has experience in Timmony and cautions that it is a dangerous location.
- The warrior and The healer, having disobeyed his family’s wishes to execute Teor and instead rescued him, have nowhere else to go.
- Yet, their reputation as important members in the influential clan could assist the group access locations they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Additionally, The fighter pledged a eternal obligation to Wicander for his rescue and will now follow him everywhere.
Wanted and Hunted
Finally, all of them are wanted by the powers that control the setting for a variety of reasons, making staying in the city dangerous:
- The rogue and Kattigan are notorious outlaws.
- Tyranny and Wicander betrayed House Halovar and the horde of evil beings they are aligned with.
- The fighter is targeted for elimination by the family.
This results in them no alternative but to travel to the remote area in quest for Casimir.
Future Episodes
From the recent installment’s Cooldown, we find out that the Soldiers table will not appear the following episode, leaving the other eight cast members to round up the Explorers and Strategists groups.
