Government Official Confirms MoD Examining Potential Threat from Chinese Cars, with Personnel Advised to Refrain from Secret Talk in Cars.

A defense official has stated that the Ministry of Defence is currently examining the potential threats posed by Chinese vehicles, while personnel have been advised to refrain from talking about secret matters in all vehicles.

Safety Advice for MoD Staff

During a recent appearance on a radio station, a defence minister commented on reports that Ministry of Defence officials have been told not to discuss classified information while riding in Chinese vehicles.

The minister stated that the MoD is “looking into” cars from China within its vehicle pools, but emphasised that safety is a issue in every contemporary cars.

Our department has a fleet of tens of thousands of cars in the Ministry of Defence and Chinese ones account for a tiny fraction.
However regardless of if you’re driving a Chinese car or a car from another country, our instruction to our staff is to avoid connecting Ministry of Defence devices into their car, not to have conversations at a secret classification in any vehicle, due to the growing threats of eavesdropping that are present in every single vehicle, to restrict those secret talks in protected areas. This is a prudent and reasonable thing for everyone worried about safety.

When it was put to him that it would be wise for the ministry to cease using all cars from China, the minister replied: That is exactly what we are looking into at the moment.”

Broader Defence Context

This revelation follows claims from Scandinavian countries have warned the UK to the presence of dual-use kill switches in Chinese-made buses, which could allow the Chinese government to switch off buses and cause chaos to transport systems.

Additionally, a Russia intelligence vessel has been directing laser beams at RAF aircrew, described as a “highly dangerous” action by defence officials.

The wider defence situation highlights the significance of robust protocols and caution in every aspects of official operations, from vehicle usage to discussions habits.
